History of ISI
Instrument Specialists Inc. (ISI) founded in 1978 by Sandra and Joseph R. Kabanek, Ph.D., began by repairing and sharpening hand-held surgical isntruments. A line of cleaning products was quickly developed after discovering that many of the instruments sent for repair were not broken, but simply dirty or rusty.
A few years later, Dr. Kabanek observed a hand surgery and began building a surgical table for extremity surgeries. In 1986, he was issued a patent for teh "K" Surgical Table. Over the years, the table has gone through some design changes and additional hand surgery tables were developed. Other hand surgery products followed, including the patented Alumi-Hand, DuraHand, DigiGrip, Finger Traps and more.
The instrument repair division expanded to the repair of flexible and rigid endoscopes as the use of scopes became more widespread. Repairs of scopes range from minor to extensive, saving hospitals the cost of replacing very expensive equipment. ISI also "loans" scopes to hospitals while having theirs serviced. In addition, ISI offers repair services for handpieces, surgical cameras, ancillary equipment and many other types of instruments and equipment.
Instrument Specialists Inc. is a privately held, family owned and operated corporation and is ISO certified, as well as WBE and HUB certified. Headquarters are located in Boerne, TX, just outside San Antonio.
